FAQ

Yeah so it's about time we build an FAQ section on our website. Considering how all our pieces are handmade, some need more special care than others in order to maintain them. And even though we always write how to take care of your shirt on the hangtag, some retailers place price stickers over important words.

Until we complete the section, we will leave the comments for this post open, so you can ask any questions or let us know of any problems you've had washing your pieces, and we'll answer back in the comments.

remember to wash your tees by hand, kiddies! fill your sink with cold water, throw in a pinch of liquid laundry detergent, soak the shirt for a minute, rub the dirty areas lightly with your fingers, massage the whole tee gently, let soak for a few minutes, empty water, rinse the shirt with cold to lukewarm water to ensure all soap is gone, then gently twist and squeeze the shirt to get as much water out as possible. Then either lay it flat to dry, or hang it (although hanging it will stretch the collar if the shirt is still very wet, due to the weight the water adds), or if you want to shrink the tee a little bit, put it inside a pillowcase, and put it in the dryer on low heat.

If you put in through the washer on a "hand wash" cycle in a netted "hand wash bag" will this affect the shirt in anyway?

Justin & Don said...

It should not affect things such as foil or ink prints, however putting it in the machine may affect the paint or spray paint effects on the shirt. Even on a "hand wash" cycle, the shirt takes more of a beating than if it is "massaged" by hand in the sink. Also, keep in mind that everyone's washing machine is different, that's why it's hard to just say "put it in the machine on handwash". If your machine is a side-load, it's much safter to put a shirt in there since there is no "propeller" in the middle that pulls the shirt from side to side. And if your shirt has Swarovski crystals, the crystals will always stay on, but they rub against the walls of the washer (and/or dryer), which scratches their surface and may damage them (causing them to shine less).

i just wanted to know what the deal with the "crying skull" (like the one Noah Boeken was wearing) isn't listed in the collection? is this piece very very limited? or is there a different story behind it?

Justin & Don said...

Despite being very limited, the Crying Skull tee was left out of our online collection by mistake. We'll post something about it tomorrow. We fuck up sometimes, but most people forgive us.

I bought 2 XL V-Neck shirts last season.. one is the perect fit... the other is huge on me....how Do i know what sizes to buy this season?

Justin & Don said...

Due to the nature of the washing effects and coloring treatments we do to each of our shirts, this results in every piece being different from the next...It's the beauty of our product but we understand it can also be a bit frustrating when trying to find the perfect fit. What we can suggest is that if you have found and XL that fits you well, then if another one is too big, drench it in hot water, place it in a pillowcase, and put it in the dryer on medium heat. This should reduce its size a little bit, resulting in a more snug fit. But if your XL is really HUGE compared to the other one you have, then it may be a very rare case of mis-labelling, because the sizes vary slightly but not by drastic amounts.

If I were to leave my shirt in hot water overnight would it shrink a whole lot? I just wanted to shrink it a little bit to fit me better. I have a piece from Sands of Sin and it fits better than my Fire In The Disco piece.

How do you print your stuff?(screenpriting, digital, etc)

Anonymous said...

Other than the swarovski crystals, many of the crytalized shirts are very similar or identical to the art gallery shirts. So my question is why the enormous price difference?

Justin & Don said...

Soak your shirt in very warm water, twist it gently to squeeze out the water, place it in a pillowcase, and put it in the dryer on medium heat. That should shrink it just a bit.

"How do you print your stuff?(screenpriting, digital, etc)"

We try out all sorts of techniques

The price difference is solely due to the cost of the Swarovski crystals and the labor involved in hand-mounting each one. We could greatly reduce the cost of every shirt by using cheaper crystals, or having them glued on instead, but we make the highest end product possible, and choose to use the most luxurious materials in the process. We have developed the machinery in-house to hand-mount every crystal with impeccable precision (you'll notice how perfect they are if you look and feel them up close). Not only do we make our Swarovski pieces in extremely limited quantities, but, believe it or not, they are also by far our least profitable items.

Justin & Don said...

You'll notice that there is no crystal in the world that is as brilliant as Swarovski. It's up to the consumer if they are willing to pay for true luxury, or go for a cheaper alternative.

this shit is sick!! you have to keep us up to date when you have it online

Justin & Don said...

The Ebay t-shirt mentioned above is legit. We have authorized seller "neonex" to sell Dom Rebel on ebay, so anything from them is guaranteed authentic. Sometimes they may sell a few of our samples, which look a little different from the production versions.

I just bought a white dom rebel with the gold wings on the back and it has black paint splatters and when i hand washed it and dryed it .....the black paint splatter rubbed off and now my shirt has rubbed black marks on it ???

Justin & Don said...

Hi Richie,
It is not normal that this happens to one of our shirts, especially if you have followed the washing instructions. In some rare cases, a product may be defective and we have zero tolerance for these occurances. You may contact info@domrebel.com, and we will be sure to replace your piece immediately. You will be instructed to return the defective piece so that we may analyze what may have went wrong.

Hi,
i am wondering where i can buy shirts from previous collection such as the angel wings ?

Anonymous said...

Hey, just wondering if you guys would consider making the foil wings shirt in a navy blue, i think it would be the hottest shirt in your fall collection. you should have a contest where you get people to design shirts and you guys pick one every collection.

ps.i think i should get one just for bringing up the idea.

My friend and I has committed to two pieces each for the July Release!

RE: "Hi, i am wondering where i can buy shirts from previous collection such as the angel wings ?"

Your only bet would be to try eBay. There is one authorized Dom Rebel eBay reseller, neonex, who sells samples and such from older collections. He also sometimes has rare pieces that you can get your hands on. If there is a particular shirt you are looking for, send him a message on ebay and he will certainly let you know if he has it.

We aren't sure if you mean our wings logo (the company logo at the top of this blog) or our angel wings design, but we are definitely working on new versions of our trademark wings logo. As for angel wings, we have discontinued them due to the fact that too many companies copied our concept after they were released in early 2005. Believe it or not, Dom Rebel was the first brand to put angel wings on the back of a t-shirt! We will leave the angel wings go down in the history books...it's just time for us to move on and keep creating new things! But who knows maybe one day we'll throw a limited edition re-issue out there for fun ;)

Hey guys,

I'm just wondering if you have any tips on how to wash the hats. I have a white art gallery wings logo hat and wanted to wash it.

Thanks!

Justin & Don said...

Good question! Usually what we have done is filled our sink with lukewarm water, and soaked the hat for about 15 minutes with a quarter sized amount of liquid detergent (very little). After it has soaked for a bit, take a facecloth and rub the dirty areas while the hat is still under water. You can then rinse the hat with lukewarm water and lay it somewhere to dry. You may have to reshape it a bit once it's dry. Also, if you have trouble getting some dirty spots off, try using Tide To Go.

Hey guys,

So i have a question, i have not yet bought a dom rebel shirt but i absolutely LOVE the brand. The problem i have with the shirts are that the small is very tight, and the medium fits loose but its very long and my arms aren't snug to the t-shirt. So i was wondering what do you suggest doing, buying a medium and shrinking or buying a small and try stretching?

Justin & Don said...

Hmmm....I would suggest you buy a medium and try shrinking it by soaking it and then putting in a pillowcase in the dryer on medium heat. Or worst case, you can always visit a tailor and they can adjust the shirt for you (shouldn't cost you more than 15-20bucks). They can bring it in on the sides and tighten the sleeves. It's always better to invest in a large piece, since you have more chances of finding a way of making it fit, rather than being stuck with something too small...

Justin & Don said...

oops meant to say larger piece not large.

Hi I purchased the Atelier What defines me ...what I love you do not love ... shirt last year from the 2008 collection (silver and grey coloured shirt). It says that it has been hand touched with the paints from paris so I was wondering is it safe to try and shrink this one in the dryer or will it melt the paints on the shirt

Anonymous said...

To shrink a shirt with stones on it, should i wash it first, because i've heard just throwing it in the dryer will shrink it. I've just gotten the angel wings Swarovski Tee and i wanna shrink the shirt so its an inch or two shorter on the chest
