We shot a behind the scenes video with Jen Daoust of our Fall 2010 campaign featuring Will Lewis, to the sounds of one of our favorite songs, "Beat The Devil's Tattoo" by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. We had a blast shooting the campaign with photographer Martin Rondeau and stylist Randy Smith, who caught some really great moments of Will out in the hot sun in a village that we don't even think had a name. All we can say is that Molson M saved the day, and we're loving the results!

This Saturday, August 7th at 9:30pm, we will be showcasing our Fall 2010 collection, "Le Bon Vivant", at the Festival Mode & Design de Montréal. The presentation will be on the festival's main stage on McGill College street in downtown Montreal, just above Ste-Catherine.

The lineup will include highlights from the Bon Vivant collection, as well as selected pieces from our _ATELIERdomrebel collection, which is being released at a handful of retailers around the world at the same time as our main collection, this Friday, August 6th.

The show is open to the public, so space may be quite limited. Get a good spot and enjoy the show!

Dom Rebel Fall 2010 Preview

The worldwide launch date for our Fall 2010 collection, "Le Bon Vivant", is set for next Friday, August 6th. Until then, we'll be posting some previews of the collection here on our blog.

Our aesthetic for Fall 2010 is authentic vintage. Our prints are specifically developed and printed to appear as naturally weathered as possible, with desaturated colors and distress. The actual t-shirts look and feel like they've been worn for 10 years and washed 100 times, just like your favorite old concert tee. Various painted effects are added for a worn in and used feel. The majority of the shirts have been repaired with either fabric patches sewn into the shirt or with embroidery that is meant to close up a torn hole. The result is a collection of shirts that you'll want to literally live in, and they'll look even better with age.

As always, we've only released a few pieces of each style to each of our stores. In most cases, there is only one piece per size available in each style. Please contact your local retailer to find out what they will be receiving.

Montreal F1 Grand Prix Weekend

Alas, all good things must come to an end. And so, the greatest weekend to spend in Montreal comes to a close as the F1 Grand Prix leaves our town after a one year hiatus. A fantastic weekend, blessed with lots of sunshine and endless partying officially kicked off our summer of festivals. And with the F1 in town, the World Cup officially underway, NBA finals going to game 6, and the CFL season just around the corner, it's a great time to be a sports fan.

For those of you that couldn't make it to our city for the F1, here are some shots of Crescent and Peel streets on Saturday afternoon. We started getting tipsy and lazy as we got to St-Laurent, so no soup for you. You'll just have to come next year.

Lesson learned: even Ferrari's can't park next to fire hydrants...

The best way to describe our neighbourhood is that it resembles New York City's Meatpacking district in more than one way. We're right on the water and just down the street from the Atwater Market, where butcher shops, cafes and local produce suppliers give you best that Quebec has to offer. The area has a grungy chip on its shoulder, and it's becoming kind of a hub for creative types (there are quite a few music and movie studios next to us). We chose this area because it reflected our personalities and the creative nature of our brand.

When we need to feel inspired, a quick walk in the backyard gets the creative juices flowing. You can see the high-rises of downtown Montreal in the background, and we're nestled under Westmount in a kind of serene place. The building you see here is where the entire Dom Rebel world exists. Our head office and design departments are here, as well as our workshop where we make every single Dom Rebel piece. And, right next to the French bistro downstairs is our Punk & Doll Gallery, which you'll be hearing more of shortly.

And I've got a whole bunch...well enough to say that over the past ten years, i've had the chance to formulate my own opinion on what makes a great jean. After several pairs of Japanese selvage or Italian-sewn jeans, my favorite has to be my cheap, 79.99$ Levis 510X Skinny Jeans. I've been wearing these bad boys for 11 months, bought them raw, and I must say that I'm enjoying them more than any Nudie, APC, Diesel or Dsquared jean before them. Not that those guys don't make awesome jeans. But the 510X's have withstood more wear and abuse than any other jean I've ever owned. And of course, the best thing about wearing raw jeans for months, is that they take on the shape of your body and end up being the most comfortable things ever. So here's an ode to you, you fabulous 510X's. You have served well for the past 11 months, and I think you're ready for your first wash...

We have compiled quite an archive collection of t-shirts since we started Dom Rebel in 2003. Every once in a while, we like to pull out a few pieces and get all nostalgic. One of our favorite pieces was this Hardrock Homeboy tee from 2005. Not much has changed in terms of how our shirts are made since then. The main difference is that instead of making them in our backyard, we now have a workshop where we work on every single piece by hand, giving it a unique character.

His name is Ralph Lauren. And of course you've heard it before. But I don't think many of you understand what this man has done. He has taken his brands to such respectable, renowned levels that certify him as the undisputed representation of American style. The Ralph Lauren style is so distinct and recognizable, yet it has achieved unrivaled success in countless countries around the world.

And now, he has opened a 23,000 square foot establishment in Paris, in a 17th-century fully-restored town house at 173 Boulevard Saint-Germain. "This is my dream in Paris", he says. "Clothes are about living...an experience. In my mind, it's about a world".

The boutique is set up on four floors, and the retail space feels like an intimate residence rather than a store. Each room is completely different from the next, and there are enough artworks, chandeliers and painstakingly restored details to rival a museum.

And to top it off, he has opened his first restaurant in Europe, called Ralph's, within the space, cooking up simple, albeit upscale, American fare. Apparently, they serve "the best hamburger in Paris". It's priced at 27 euros (!). So hopefully it lives up to the hype.

We can't wait to visit.

The Purchase: Prada - The Book

So it's been a while that I've been looking forward to getting the Prada book, or tome (since it's 708 pages!). It just took some time to finally make the decision to dish out 170$ for a book... But what a book it is. At first glance, you would think it's another one of those coffee-table, heavy books that you flip through once and then it acts as decoration. But the Prada book is an examination of Prada from the inside out, from the history of the first Prada store opened by Mario Prada in 1913, to the unbelievable attention to detail and craftsmanship that has been maintained since the brand's inception, the current reign of Miuccia Prada who took the reigns in 1987 and transformed the brand into a global luxury leader, with a full catalogue of every Prada campaign since 1987, and full coverage of Prada's involvement in art, architecture, cinema, communications and fashion. It is such an inspirational book for anyone involved in any of these domains, and demonstrates an unhindered dedication to perfection and evolution, while maintaining a true identity. Ok, so you'll have to forgive us if you're a Canucks fan. We're from Montreal, so all season long, we watch Canadiens games and basically call it a night afterwards. We catch the Vancouver highlights on Sportscenter. But now that the playoffs have started, we've finally watched an entire game, and these green guys are seriously the funniest thing we've ever seen! For those of you, like us, that are unfamiliar with them, they are two guys that have season tickets and sit next to the visiting team's penalty box, dressed in Spider-Man costumers that are entirely green. They do these weird things when a visiting player goes to the penalty box... Words can't describe it, but we were in tears laughing so hard when we saw this live on tv!

When we heard that Slash was doing a solo album, I'll be the first to admit that we had mixed expectations. Don't get me wrong, Slash is awesome. It's just that when artists set off to do "special projects", it's usually hit or miss. Sometimes disaster. But after listening to Slash's "Slash" album...well, it kicks some serious ass. Not only is there a pretty decent remake of "Paradise City", but the whole album feels nostalgic while being relevant at the same time. And, cough, Fergie actually sounds pretty cool on this album (there we fucking said it). Best song by far though? "By The Sword", which features Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale on vocals. Epic. It's as if you took all the best things about rock'n'roll from the past 40 years and made a song out of it. Enjoy.

Well, it must be pretty profitable to make counterfeit Dom Rebel goods, because the low-life people that make a living knocking off the hard work of artists around the world keep pumping out our old designs onto the black market.

The funny thing is that we are a small artisanal brand from Montreal, Canada...So more power to us, I guess.

We hope you respect our work enough to discourage this kind of bullshit. The fakes mostly come out of China, and they are sold in bulk on a lot of websites. The saddest part of all, is that we struggle to build our small brand day by day, for the sake of putting out a quality product for our fans to enjoy, and make everything in such limited edition. And these people come in and cheapen the whole experience.

The only good news is that our fans are quick to call out someone wearing a fake Dom Rebel shirt. We've heard stories of people getting thrown out of nightclubs and restaurants, especially in Montreal, for wearing a fake Dom Rebel shirt...

Armani 5th Avenue

We just came back from a quick trip to NYC, and took a few minutes to take in the beautiful display in the windows of Armani's revolutionary 5th Avenue store. The store was opened last year, and the design is, simply put, breathtaking, with a spiralling white staircase in the back of the store that really can't be described in words.

On display in the windows are the extreme creations that Giorgio Armani created himself for various celebrities and red-carpet events over the span of his career, from Beyonce to Halle Berri and Lady Gaga (seen below, complete with headpiece!). The dresses are staying there for a limited time, and are definitely worth checking out.

We've really fallen in love with this show. Produced by Mark Wahlberg, the best way to describe "How To Make It In America" is that it's the East Coast version of Entourage, except instead of having tons of cash to blow on the LA scene, the stories are about city boys in their mid-twenties trying to make a buck in a harsh landscape. The show could not have debuted at a better time, amidst a destructive recession, and it is both inspiring and motivating. It brings that hustle back to our daily approach of things.

The great thing is that, like Entourage, the actors play fictional characters but interact with the real New York City environment. They go to restaurants, clubs, and shops that exist, and deal with the real owners of those places in the show. So if you're familiar with NYC, you'll be instantly hooked. From selling bootleg leathers on a corner in Soho, to visiting The Jean Shop, and heading out to Avenue in Chelsea, everything feels authentic, as well as the pace of all the characters (everyone is NYC-quick in their speech and lifestyle, compared to the laid-back LA vibe).

And the music! Damn, son. That is the best intro song ever for a TV show or even a movie. And the selection of music that plays throughout each episode is bang-on. Killer stuff.

Nice to see Kid Cudi playing a role, he's one of our favorite artists right now, so it was icing on the cake to see that he's a main character in the show. And LUIZ GUZMAN!! Was he fucking born to play this role or what?? Hilarious. I guess you could say he's the Ari Gold of this show. But enough with the comparisons, even though they're inevitable.

Boots

One of the biggest trends for men this Spring (and certainly for the upcoming Fall 2010 collections) is boots. From utilitarian-style hunting and working boots, to military combat boots and all sorts of hybrids in between, almost anything goes.

The boot adds a serious dose of masculinity to any look. I've been sporting Timberland Boot Company's high-rise styles for over a year now, and haven't looked back. Don has recently been lured by Bess's embellished vintage combat boots.

Here are a selection of styles that we really like.

LL Bean Waxed Canvas Hunting Boot
It's been around forever, and has recently been featured in GQ as a necessary addition to your footwear collection. On top of that, it's reasonably priced, and has a classic look that you can pull off for many seasons ahead. It's the ultimate cold weather boot for areas like here in Montreal, Toronto or New York, which can be carried on in Spring for our messy streets.

Rag & Bone x Timberland Boot Company
Timberland Boot Company has been re-creating classics in true vintage fashion for a few seasons since it was introduced as the artisanal division of Timberland. Now, one of our favorite brands, Rag & Bone, has teamed up with the maker to make a collection for Fall that has us really excited. With a killer high boot (seen below in Brown) and a mid-rise boat shoe, these styles work especially well with dark denim, rolled at the cuff, with year-round wearability.

Neil Barrett x Palladium
Of course, then there is the plethora of combat boots already on the market, and their improved versions for Fall. Our personal favorite is a collaboration between bootmaker Palladium and one of our favorite designers, Neil Barrett, available this Fall.

Up to now, the best Cuban sandwich could be found at Cafe Habana, a hole in the wall in Nolita (and those corn on the cobs are a MUST if you are ever in NYC, worth the trek). It's still our favorite lunch joint in NYC, but now that we've had this Cuban on brown ciabatta at Market downstairs of the Cooper Building in downtown LA, I think our quest for the world's best sandwich has made a pit stop, at least for now.

Every month, we will give away one free Dom Rebel product on Twitter, Facebook, and on our blog (that's three pieces a month, holy cow!). Following our tradition, we present to you our 2009 version, wishing you and yours a very happy and enjoyable Holiday season and a prosperous and healthy New Year. Notice how on the front of the card, Marie put the shot glasses on her eyes from the drinking side, which means the leftover alcohol from the shots dripped into her eyes and burned. Yaaaay!!

Back on December 1st, we released a very limited collection of children's pieces to select retailers across Canada. The collection features 3 designs from our archives: the AG skull, the signature Angel Wings, and the Bon Garcon T-shirt, seen below. All three were taken from our Spring 2006 collection, Forbidden Paradise. Since we never remake any of our designs, and they are always sold in limited quantities, it was fun for us to be able to recreate some of them for our kids collection. We'll put a couple more photos up this week, and we will consider bringing back a couple of other designs for another future kids collection. The shirts come in sizes 2, 4 and 6.
